LORD, TEACH ME PATIENCE!

They say, be careful what you wish for because you just might get it.  The preacher, in his wisdom, knew this a long, long time ago when he said these words; “Don’t make rash promises and don’t be hasty in bringing matters before God. After all, God is in heaven, and you are here on earth. So let your words be few.” (NLT)

Anyone who knows me a little bit can attest that patience is not my strongest virtue.  I try but I fail then I try again and fail forward, and on and on. So, like a good Christian girl, I have been praying ceaselessly for the LORD to teach me patience. I didn’t know unlike in school or class where you learn the lesson first before the test, with God, and in life, you get the test while learning the lesson. Or the lesson is in the test, you may get it right or may totally blow it. Regardless of how many times you fail, he keeps teaching you until you get it completely.

For example, you are driving on the freeway and someone cuts you off, do you chase them down, catch up to them, and brake check them or do you, thank the LORD that it didn’t cause a crash, slow down, check your mirrors, and continue on your way?  Do you speak rudely to the lady in the McDonald’s drive-thru because they got your order wrong, the third time in a row or do you speak graciously to the clerk and act kindly towards her?

So, patience, a virtue that many of us need but not a lot of us have is absolutely essential in entrepreneurship. You have to be patient: patient with yourself–learning new skills takes time, you have to be patient with others–people tend to react negatively to what they don’t understand and may let their pride get in the way to learn more, you have to be patient with events–you can’t control what happens, when it happens or why it happens, you can only control your reaction to things, you have to be patient with your result–sometimes, the result is in your consistency with doing what is needful, you have to be patient and gracious with everything around you because, God hides treasures in very earthly vessels. You might be very close to your breakthrough and may not even know it.

So, now, that you’re in God’s classroom. Be a good student, open your heart, and learn all it is that he has to teach you.

I look forward to hearing from you.

Yours truly.
